THE SECOND SESSION OF
EAST EUROPEAN WINTER SCHOOL
I. CONDITIONS PARTICIPATION
1. The School is meant for students of the humanities under the age of 25 who prepare their MA (diploma) theses on
history and current affairs of the Eastern and Central Europe in the broad meaning of the terms (history, political
science, international relations, sociology, ethnology, political geography and demography).
2. Participants in the School can be students from the former USSR, the former communist bloc as well as from the
Western countries. Polish students will take part in the School as guest participants.
3. Participants are required to know English and Polish, being the languages of instruction, at a sufficient level to
understand and make good use of the lectures.
4. The School programme includes lectures (which will be delivered by an international team of outstanding
specialists dealing with the region's issues) and seminars (one to be selected out of the three offered seminars), where
each Participant will read a report on his/her diploma thesis, as well as visits to academic institutions and libraries in
Wroclaw and participation in the cultural programme, the main point of which will be the festival of Krzysztof Kieœlowski
films.
II. SCHOLARSHIPS
1. The complete cost of participation in the School per person is 440 euro or an equivalent thereof in Polish zlotys for
those students
2. Candidates from Eastern and Central Europe can apply for full or partial scholarships to cover the costs of
accommodation, meals, lectures and field trips, depending on their country of origin. The application for
scholarship should be attached to the documents.

1. Candidates should send the following documents by :
a) completed School questionnaire (see our site: );
b) application for acceptance, including description of the candidate's academic interests and the topic of the
candidate's MA thesis;
c) curriculum vitae and a photograph;
d) letter of recommendation from the candidate's diploma thesis tutor.

1. Aformal invitation for candidates who have been qualified for the East EuropeanWinter SchoolWroc³aw 2005 will be sent via
e-mail by at the latest. The original invitation, signed by the School's Director and by the Managing Director
of the College of Eastern Europe will be sent by post. The respective Polish Consulates will receive lists of the qualified
candidates to facilitate the formalities connected with the visas.
2. Participants'arrivals – on Monday, February 28, the Shool starts onTuesday, March 1, 2005.
