TATIANA G. MERZLYAKOVA
HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSIONER IN SVERDLOVSK REGION
Biography:
Born on May 16, 1957 in Altai Territory.
In 1979 graduated from the journalism department of Ural State University.
1979-1996: worked as reporter and head of the economic department, and during the last seven years, as editor-in-chief at "Rezhevskaya Vest’" district newspaper.
Awarded the Prize of the Union of Journalists in 1986.
Worked as deputy of the Town Council of People deputies in the town of Rezh.
1996-2000: deputy of Regional Duma at the Legislature of Sverdlovsk Region in Ekaterinburg.
1998-2000: Vice-Chairperson of Social Policy Committee of the Regional Duma at the Legislature of Sverdlovsk Region in Ekaterinburg.
Participated in elaboration of regional laws “On prevention of drug addiction and drug abuse within Sverdlovsk region”, “On libraries and library stock in Sverdlovsk region”, “On cultural activities within Sverdlovsk region”, “On libraries and library stock in Sverdlovsk region”, “On intellectual workers and intellectual workers’ associations within Sverdlovsk region”, “On education within Sverdlovsk region”, “On state policy in relation to youth within Sverdlovsk region” etc.
For elaboration and active participation in the enactment of the regional law “On missionary activities within Sverdlovsk region” was decorated with an Order of Saint Princess Olga by Aleksiy II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
Since 1998, she has been a member of the Commission for Women’s Affairs under the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of RF.
Since May 5, 2000: Adviser on social issues for the Chairman of the Government of Sverdlovsk Region.
On May 24, 2001 T.Merzlyakova was elected by the House of Representatives of the Legislature in Sverdlovsk Region as Commissioner on Human rights in Sverdlovsk Region.
T.Merzlyakova is married, her daughter is a higher school student.
